Indication |
Establish the presence and possible role of Helicobacter ylori in chronic gastric ulcer, active gastritis and duodenal ulcers.

Physiology |
H. pylori is a gram negative microaerophilic spiral shaped bacteria which causes gastritis and other inflammatory gastroduodenal lesions. It produces urease which helps in detection and identification of this organism. Culture with biopsy is the gold standard for identification of H. pylori.

Normal Range |
Negative for urease activity, negative culture, biopsy negative for gastritis and negative for H. pylori.
|
Interpretation |
Most peptic ulcers related to H. pylori are curable.
