Heinz Body Stain |
Indication |
This test is used to detect hemolytic disorders associated with Heinz body formation. |
Physiology |
Heinz bodies are intra-erythrocytic insoluble inclusions of oxidatively denatured hemoglobin. They reflect the presence of metabolic derangement of or abnormality in the secondary structure of hemoglobin. |
Normal Range |
No Heinz bodies identified. |
Interpretation |
Heinz bodies are present during G-6-PD deficiency, Heinz body hemolytic anemia (HBHA). Oxidative denaturation of hemoglobin leads to formation of Heinz bodies. |
