Hematology Test
Folic acid, serum/Folate level, Serum folate
Test Folic acid, serum/Folate level, Serum folate
Indication This test is done to detect the folate deficiency, monitor therapy with folate, evaluate megaloblastic and macrocytic anemia, and evaluate alcoholic patients with prior jejuno-ileal for morbid obesity or those with intestinal blind-loop syndrome.
Physiology Naturally occurring folates are present widely in plant and animal foods taken in the diet and absorbed in the small intestine. Lack of folic acid inhibits DNA synthesis in rapidly dividing cells, thus producing Megaloblastic anemia.
